History – Mission

The Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management was founded by the Presidential Decree 118/2003 and began its educational operation in the academic year 2003-2004. Together with the Department of Philology it forms the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies of the University of the Peloponnese.

The Department’s mission is to:

  • cultivate and promote knowledge in the disciplines of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management, with an emphasis on the areas of Greek and European History, Epigraphy, Maritime Archaeology, Cultural Heritage Management, and Museology;
  • provide its students with the necessary resources and train them fully for scientific and professional careers;
  • contribute to the development of cultural studies in association with modern approaches to cultural resources management and the use of up-to-date technology.
  • organize postgraduate studies to train scientists with specialized knowledge in the subjects offered by the Department

The undergraduate study programme of DHACRM is certified by the Hellenic Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency (2018-2023) as “fully compliant” to a series of standards. Please read here the accreditation report
