Maria Kouri, Assistant Professor

Maria Kouri is Assistant Professor in Cultural Administration and Development of Local Communities of the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management, University of the Peloponnese. Academically, she has also cooperated with the Panteion University of Social and Economic Sciences, the Hellenic Open University, the former Technological Educational Institute of Epirus and the former Telemark University of Norway.

Her research and publication interests focus on various aspects of cultural policy and administration, such as national and international cultural policies; management and marketing of non-profit cultural institutions; audience development and education in arts organisations and museums; the role of cultural resources in sustainable development of communities; participatory governance of cultural resources.

Among other research projects, she has carried out a post-doctoral research funded by the State Scholarships Foundation-Greece and has researched grassroots cultural policies at the University of Chicago as a Fulbright Research Scholar (2012-2013). She was also honoured by the title Harvard University Center for Hellenic Studies Fellow in Comparative Cultural Studies (2016-2017).

Professionally, she has also worked in the production, marketing and education departments of various cultural organisations in Greece, Austria and England. She has served as Expert Counsellor to the Secretary General of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, and as Expert on Culture to the Social and Economic Committee of Greece.

Maria is a scholar of the “Friends of Music” Association, the Richard Wagner Verband Wien and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has a Piano Diploma (honours) by the National Conservatory of Greece.
