Research Institute of Byzantine Culture

Τhe Research Institute of Byzantine Culture is located in Mystras, Sparta. It was founded in 2007 in the framework of the University of the Peloponnese and functions in the context of the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies. It’s main aims are:


1.    To research aspects of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine History, Archaeology, Arts and Society. Additional emphasis is given to the study of the Peloponnese, particularly the area of Laconia;
2.    To promote research at an international level and to facilitate affiliations with related centres and institutes;
3.    To organize conferences and seminars on Byzantine culture; and,
4.    To serve as an educational centre for graduate students from Greece and abroad. The Institute also supports the realization of doctoral theses.
