Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management

Since its establishment in 2003, the Department of History, Archaeology, and Cultural Resources Management has sought to harmonize the traditional disciplines of History and Archaeology with the modern scientific field of Cultural Management.

It was the first University Department in Greece to integrate these disciplines into a single undergraduate curriculum. With a strong emphasis on interdisciplinarity, the Department focuses on the sustainable management of cultural resources, and particularly on cultural heritage.

The pioneering character of the Department is further enhanced by the establishment of the Laboratories of Archaeometry, Underwater Archaeology, and Modern and Contemporary History, as well as by the University Archaeological Museum Collection.

Based in Kalamata, the Department actively engages with international research developments. It provides students with a solid and wide-ranging theoretical foundation, alongside essential practical skills, thus enabling them to respond effectively to future challenges and opportunities in these fields.

With sincere regards,

The Chair of the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management

Professor Thanasis Christou
