GENERAL INFORMATION

The Library and the Information Center, University of the Peloponnese, Kalamata Division, are situated in the building of the old Camp at the East Centre of Kalamata, which also houses the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies. The Library occupies an area of 360 square metres. It hosts an area reserved for rare books and benefactors’ donations, and two reading rooms equipped with computers for accessing the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) on the Library's website: http://opac.library.uop.gr , e-libraries and data bases, and, for carrying out research. The library comprises approximately 24,000 volumes, 216 periodicals, numerous doctoral dissertations and postgraduate research theses, as well as about 600 reprints of scholarly works.

 

LIBRARY MISSION

The Library’s mission is to support the educational and research needs of the academic community and to contribute to the intellectual and cultural development of the wider society.

 

CONTENTS AND CLASSIFICATION

The Library has been developed applying up-to-date library guidelines, methods and expertise. Its collection comprises more than 24,000 volumes, and it is gradually increasing through continuous purchases and donations. Indexing, classification and ordination of library material is based on the classification system of the Library of Congress.

 

BORROWING

The Library operates as a lending library. Exceptions apply to some categories, such as journal issues, newspapers, indexes, dictionaries, encyclopedias, maps, very old and rare books, manuscripts, archival material, photographs and Microfiches, which are used exclusively inside the Library. Users returning books may renew the lending period twice, provided that they have not been requested by another user.

 

RULES OF USE

Use of the Library, with the possibility of borrowing, is available to all registered undergraduate and graduate students, members of the academic community and the general public (external users), owning a library card. To obtain the library card interested individuals should submit the relevant application to the library staff.

 

GUIDELINES FOR USERS OF THE LIBRARY

Patrons of the Library are kindly asked to respect the Library as a designated quiet space (e.g. no cell phone rings and conversations, no group study, no loud or prolonged talking). Users are expected to place their bags and personal belongings in the special lockers provided for this purpose and turn the portable devices (mobile phones, Lap top etc.) into silent mode or off. The use of mobile phones, as well as smoking, drinking and eating is not allowed in the Library.

 

OPENING HOURS

The Library is open Monday-Thursday from 9:00 to 16:45, and Friday from 9:00 to 17:45. During Christmas, Easter and summer holidays (July 1st - August 31st) opening hours for the public are 9:00 to 14:45.
