A ship well-crafted in the manifold tempests at sea

The Visual Handbook of Maritime Archaeology is part of the infrastructure of the Maritime Archaeology Laboratory, activated under our directorship in 2016, in the University of the Peloponnese. The archaeomarlab  is the first of its kind in an archaeology department in Greece. It houses collections for teaching and research purposes, a map section, an electronic d-base of relevant literature, basic diving equipment and the Archaeological Shoreline Research Project (A.Sho.Re.) on Kephallenia. The Visual Handbook under consideration is conceived as a comprehensive synopsis of the surviving maritime and nautical evidence in Greece, complemented by the iconography of the seas. This synthesis aims at elaborating on the content and context of maritime cultures, including the nautical arts and crafts, as developed in Greece for 9 thousand years from the 7^th millennium B.C. to the 20^th c. A.D.
